ADAS Calibration in Bullhead City, Arizona

1 min read

Driver assistance systems have to be recalibrated after the panels they mount to are disturbed. Collision Crafters handles that work in house as part of auto body repair rather than sending vehicles elsewhere for it.

What actually needs calibrating

The forward camera behind the windshield. Radar units mounted in or behind the front grille and bumper. Corner radar in the rear bumper for blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alerts. Cameras in the mirrors and tailgate that feed the surround view display. Any of these can be moved by a repair to the panel they sit in, or by a windshield replacement, or by suspension work that changes ride height.

Why aiming matters more than it sounds

These sensors judge distance and closing speed from a fixed reference. A radar aimed a fraction of a degree off does not report an error. It simply misjudges where an object is, and that shows up as automatic braking that intervenes late, or lane keeping that pulls toward the wrong side of the lane.

There is no warning light for a sensor that is confidently wrong. That is precisely why the calibration has to be verified rather than assumed.

Static and dynamic procedures

Some vehicles calibrate statically, using targets positioned at measured distances on a level floor with controlled lighting. Others require a dynamic procedure, driven at a specified speed on well-marked road while the system learns. Many need both, in a specified order. We follow whichever the manufacturer publishes for the vehicle in front of us.

Documented before it leaves

Every calibration is recorded with a pre-scan and post-scan showing the codes present at intake and cleared at completion. You keep that paperwork.
